Phony Cookies

  1. I really enjoyed that you used your food connection as an attention grabber in your presentation. Even after several viewings of presentations, I focused on your presentation because you invited your audience in by giving them tangible items that still connected to your thesis. Another reason why your presentation sticks out to me is that your food item had a complex integration into your project. It was not a simple declaration of “this is my food and this is how it connects to my thesis.” You carefully planned out your cookie trick and allowed us to make ignorant judgments, thus persuading us towards your thesis.
However, your cookies did not perfectly align with your thesis. I was under the impression that both cookies were complete phonies. However, you state that there are genuine people with a few phony characteristics. In your cookie idea, there aren’t any shades of gray. I feel as though perhaps you should have clarified your thought process with this introduction or tweaked it a little more. Perhaps you could have bought store bought cookies that perfectly resembled your mother’s cookies, told your audience they were all store bought, then at the end of the presentation revealed certain cookies were homemade. This would exemplify the idea that the cookies all have phony characteristics but some were more genuine than others.
